William Jessup University (WJU) is a private Christian liberal arts college located in Rocklin, CA, in the greater Sacramento area in Northern California. WJU was founded in 1939, and is now ranked #2 in Regional Colleges West by U.S. News and World Report. With an emphasis on the integration of faith and academics, WJU’s liberal arts education provides students with the opportunity to develop into thoughtful Christian leaders in their community and the world.
Christian identity and “partnership with the Church” are central to WJU’s mission, which is to “educate transformational leaders for the Glory of God.” WJU seeks to develop students into servant leaders who will “redeem world culture” through their chosen career and through their dedication to their families, church, and communities.
The main campus of WJU is located on 126 acres in suburban Rocklin, near Sacramento. With modern architecture designed by world-renowned architect Frank Gehry, WJU’s campus earned the Best Rebuild/Renovation award by the Sacramento Business Journal in 2005. Downtown Sacramento is a half hour drive from the campus, with Lake Tahoe and ski resorts only an hour and a half away and San Francisco and multiple beaches within two hours.
WJU offers nearly 20 undergraduate majors in small class settings, with a low student-to-faculty ratio of 12 to one. Popular majors include Biology, Business, Kinesiology, Psychology, and Christian Leadership. WJU also offers a pathway to California teacher licensure through the Liberal Studies major. In addition to the undergraduate degrees offered, WJU also offers many graduate degrees in the areas of teaching, business administration, psychology and sports management, among others.
WJU primarily competes in the Golden State Athletic Conference of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA). Men’s teams include basketball, baseball, cross country, golf and soccer while women compete in basketball, cross country, soccer, softball and volleyball, among other sports.
