The Master’s College and Seminary is located in Santa Clarita, California, a suburban area of Los Angeles County. The Master’s College (also known as TMC) is an undergraduate Christian college which was established in 1927. The associated seminary was founded in 1986. The institutions are incorporated under one name. In recent years, The Master’s College has been ranked in the top tier in U.S News and World Report’s list of best colleges in the West in the category of comprehensive Baccalaureate colleges.
Mission/Vision
TMC’s mission is “to empower students for a life of enduring commitment to Christ, biblical fidelity, moral integrity, intellectual growth and lasting contribution to the kingdom of God.” They spell out the specific details of each of those goals in their official mission statement. Their commitment to certain doctrinal principles is also spelled out in a comprehensive statement detailing what they teach about God, humanity, the Scriptures and a number of other key theological subjects.
Campus Setting
TMC is located in Santa Clarita, the fourth largest city in L.A. County. Six Flags Magic Mountain Amusement Park is located just outside the city. In addition to classrooms, library and administrative buildings, the campus includes eight dormitories for resident students, four for men and four for women. Off-campus housing is also available in a setting about two miles from the main campus.
Academics
The college offers 13 undergraduate majors in 58 different areas of study. The majors offered are in Biblical Studies, Business, Communications, Computer & Information Science, English, History/Political Studies, Home Economics/Family and Consumer Sciences, Kinesiology/Physical Education, Liberal Studies, Mathematics, Music, Teacher Education and Sciences. The college also participates in cooperative programs with organizations such as the Los Angeles Film Studies Center and the Au Sable Institute of Environmental Studies. It also offers the TESOL certificate and two master’s level degrees in Biblical Counseling and Biblical Studies.
The seminary offers six degrees: a diploma in theology and a bachelor’s in theology, the master of divinity and master of theology degrees, and two doctorates, the doctor of ministry of doctor of theology degrees.
Athletics
TMC is part of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA). Their teams are called the Mustangs and they mostly compete in the Golden State Athletic Conference. There are men’s teams in baseball, basketball, cross country, golf, soccer, and indoor track and field, while women compete in basketball, cross country, soccer, volleyball and both indoor and outdoor track and field.
Tuition and Financial Aid
Tuition runs $14,720 for a 12-18 unit semester. If less than 12 units are taken, the cost is $1,235 per unit. Fees vary depending on the courses chosen.
Accreditation
The Master’s College is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC). They maintain memberships in several academic associations, including the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities.
Admissions
Students interested in applying to the Master’s College can take a virtual tour of the campus online or schedule a visit. The college does an annual spring visitation weekend and features a “Monday at Master’s” program where potential students can visit on a Monday, sit in on classes and meet with an admissions counselor.
