Hope International University (HIU) is a private non-demoninational Christian University that is located in Fullerton, California. Founded in 1928, the school’s mission is to empower each of its students with a Christian education that allows them to impact the world for Christ. The campus is diverse with over 1,700 students that represent 35 different states and 40 countries. The school devotes itself to staying centered on Christ while maintaining the moral values of the Restoration Movement. With each professional that students choose to pursue, the goal of HIU is to equip each individual to change the world for Christ with their career.
Campus Setting
Hope International’s campus features original buildings that were once used as a movie theater and general shopping area with Google architecture that was commonly seen in the 1960s. The main campus offers undergraduate and residential programs with state-of-the-art classrooms and an expansive library. Students can also find a bookstore, fitness center, dormitories, and dining facilities available on-site.
The Anaheim campus hosts programs for HIU’s online and graduate students with a 24,000 square foot facility that offers spectacular views of Angel Stadium.
The Corona Educational Center is an additional campus of HIU’s and welcomes graduate students at its facilities. The contemporary design of the school features an on-campus cafe and is conveniently located near restaurants and a local park.
The Puget Sound Education Center is located on the premises of Everett Community College in Washington with a green building that spans over 77,000 square feet. Students can utilize student lounges, art classrooms, and computer labs on the campus.
Academics
The university offers undergraduate, graduate, and adult studies with a student to professor ratio of 14 to 1 for an intimate and personalized education that encourages strong relationships in the classroom. The school offers 26 undergraduate degrees and 12 graduate programs. 10 different online programs are also available through the university. Some of the main undergraduate programs include Communication, Psychology, Biblical Studies, Liberal Arts, Criminal Justice, Preaching, and Associate Arts.
Athletics
Hope International has a variety of athletic teams, known as the Royals, with each team competing mainly in the Golden State Athletic Conference. Both men and women’s sports are available, which include cross country, basketball, volleyball, tennis, soccer, and softball.
Tuition & Financial Aid
Annual tuition for undergraduate programs at Hope International University is $26,550 annually with 12-17 units per semester. For students living on-campus, room and board begins at $4,650. Various forms of financial aid are available to qualifying students.
Accreditation
In 1969, Hope International University became accredited by Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC), along with the Commission on Accreditation of the Association for Biblical Higher Education. In 1993, they also became a member of the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities with bible courses that are approved by Association of Christian Schools International. Additional accreditations include the California Commission for Teacher Credentialing (CTC), the Commission of Accreditation for Marriage and Family Therapy Education, and The Board of Behavioral Sciences.
Admissions
Individuals can apply to attend the university by submitting high school transcripts with a $40 non-refundable application fee. Two references are also required from both a church leader and a former or current employer. Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 2.5 with an ACT test score of 20 and an SAT score of 900.
