Fresno Pacific University (FPU) located in Fresno, California was founded in 1944 as part of the Pacific District Conference of Mennonite Brethren Churches. This private coed Christian liberal arts institution combines traditional degree and certificate programs with an emphasis on ethical and spiritual development.
Mission/Vision
Fresno Pacific University’s mission is to “develop students for leadership and service through excellence in Christian higher education.” The institute strives to achieve this through innovative programming, academic excellence and spiritual vitality. The university also strives to follow Christ-centered values through community and service to others.
Campus Setting
The FPU main campus is located in Fresno County on an urban 40 acre campus. The university also has four regional satellite campuses in North Fresno, Merced, Visalia and Bakersfield. The campus continues to expand as the student population grows.
Academics
Fresno Pacific has just over 2,800 undergraduate students and a total enrollment of more than 4,000 students. Approximately 70 percent of the student population are women and 30 percent are men. The school attendance schedule is set up on a semester system with primary enrollment in the Fall. The student to teacher ratio is approximately 12 to 1 with the majority of classes limiting registration to 20 students or less. Currently FPU offers traditional undergraduate and graduate degrees as well as special programs for working adults. The majority of traditional programs are located on the main campus while satellite campuses are more focused on adult learning. Fresno Pacific University currently offers over 30 majors and over 100 areas of study. Majors range in both secular and religious studies ranging from arts and sciences to biblical and religious studies. Along with undergraduate degrees FPU also offers various graduate programs including degrees from the Fresno Pacific Biblical Seminary.
Athletics
Fresno Pacific’s teams are known as the Sunbirds. Men’s sports include baseball, basketball, cross country, soccer, swimming, diving, tennis, track and field and water polo. Women’s sports include basketball, cross country, soccer, swimming, diving, tennis, track and field, volleyball and water polo. The school’s sports teams are part of the PacWest conference except for the swimming, diving and water polo teams. Along with sports involvement, the FPU athletic department sponsors a sports medicine program to allow for enrolled students to gain clinical athletic training competencies.
Tuition & Financial Aid
Annual undergraduate tuition at FPU is actually quite reasonable in comparison to other similar private schools. FPU offers a variety of financial aid options including state, federal and private loans, and grants and scholarships. More than 97 percent of students qualify for some form of financial aid. Accreditation
Fresno Pacific University is regionally accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC).
Admissions
Admissions is selective with the university accepting approximately 70 percent of those that apply. To apply you must have a high school degree as well as must send in either SAT or ACT scores. The application deadline for fall admission is July 31st.
