California Baptist University

California Baptist University (Cal Baptist or CBU) was founded in 1950 as an institution with the goal of offering a liberal arts education in a Christian atmosphere.

Mission/Vision
The belief of California Baptist University is that “each person was created for a purpose”. The purpose of Cal Baptist is to assist students in preparation their unique purpose by “providing a Christ-centered educational experience that integrates academics with spiritual and social development opportunities”. The four values, called the “Core 4”, that have been identified by CBU to accomplish their mission are being adequately academically prepared, biblically rooted, globally minded and equipped to serve.

Campus Setting
The California Baptist University campus is located on 128 acres in Riverside, California. The campus boasts a beautiful view of the San Bernardino Mountains, in addition to beautiful, southern California weather. Riverside is close to many southern California attractions: Los Angeles is 60 miles to the west, and an hour and a half south is San Diego. Disneyland and Knott’s Berry Farm are 45 minutes away, and several beautiful beaches are within an hour of the Cal Baptist campus. Big Bear, a popular ski resort, is 65 miles away and many hikes and outdoor activities are available near campus. Public transportation is available from Riverside, making travel in the southern California area easy and affordable. Los Angeles International Airport, Palm Springs International Airport, and LA Ontario airport are all located reasonably close to the Cal Baptist campus.

Academics
California Baptist has over ten schools and colleges that offer various degree programs for both graduate and undergraduate students. The colleges are Allied Health Sciences, Architecture and Design, Arts and Sciences, Engineering, Behavioral Sciences, Business, Christian Ministries, Education, Music, Nursing, and Online Learning. Within these colleges, there are a broad range of degree programs and specialties offered.

The graduate degrees available are in architecture, athletic training, business administration, counseling ministry, counseling psychology, education, English, nursing, forensic psychology, kinesiology, leadership and adult learning, music, public health, school counseling, school psychology, and science education.

Cal Baptist offers online education programs as well. Among the online offerings are business administration, communication, counseling psychology, disability studies, early childhood studies, kinesiology, psychology, public administration, public relations, and the Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages certification (TESOL). An Autism Spectrum Disorders Added Authorization is also available online through CBU.

Athletics
The California Baptist University Lancers play for the National Collegiate Athletic Association, Division II in the Pacific West Conference. The Lancer’s offer many sports for both men and women. Men’s sports include baseball, basketball, cross country, golf, soccer, swimming and diving, distance track, water polo, wrestling and volleyball. Women’s sports are basketball, cheerleading, cross country, golf, soccer, softball, swimming and diving, distance track, volleyball and water polo.

Tuition & Financial Aid
Cal Baptist is a private college, so tuition rates are the same for in state and out of state students. The per credit cost is $1,012, and for a full schedule, between 13 and 18 credits, tuition is $13,156 per semester. Housing costs are $2,395 per semester for a shared occupancy. There are additional costs for books and materials that depend on course of study.

Nearly 87% of Cal Baptist students have received some type of financial aid, and CBU offered their students 115 million dollars of financial aid in the 2012-2013 school year. The average offering per student (combining CBU financial aid in addition to government assistance) was over $13,000 for the last school year.

Accreditation
CBU is accredited by the Accrediting Commission for Senior Colleges and Universities of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC). In addition to the institutional accreditation, many of the programs have an accreditation specific to their subject.

CBU has rolling admissions, which means there is no deadline for applications.
